Rosanne Somerson, President of Rhode Island School of Design, professor and founder of RISD Furniture Design department. Well regarded as a visionary leader in art and design education, she has served as the RISD provost for years before her presidency. Rosanne Somerson is an American woodworker, furniture designer/maker. As a leading figure in American studio furniture field, she has maintained a professional studio practice, Rosanne Somerson Furniture since 1979. She is the co-editor of The Art of Critical Making: Rhode Island School of Design on Creative Practice. Her work has been exhibited internationally and collected by Smithsonian American Art Museum and many others.
