Lufthansa launches Overseas Study Networking Group for Chinese students
The airline offers Europe travel tips, fun and special student fares

Lufthansa continues to expand its services in China for its customers’ convenience by launching a Lufthansa European Overseas Study Group (http://lufthansa.xiaonei.com) on the online networking platform Xiaonei (www.xiaonei.com). The Lufthansa online community aims to help Chinese students who are interested in studying in Europe to get and exchange information on European countries especially in terms of living, visa application, studying and travelling. Lufthansa is the first and only European airline offering such a comprehensive interactive social networking community in the Chinese market.

The group main page serves as a 'community center' with comprehensive functionalities including BBS, a photo album, virtual gifts, downloads of Lufthansa mobile phone ring  one, podcasts, virtual map of Europe and others.

Over a period of one year, 12 European countries, linked to the main page, will be introduced gradually as ‘country of the month’. Lufthansa is providing information on all 12 nations and has further assigned one Chinese 'Student Ambassador Blogger' for each European country who is actually based in that country and functions as a country expert and advisor. Group members can either get information from the ambassador’s blog or get in contact with other like-minded young people via the BBS. This way Chinese students will be connected with other members based in their EU country of interest and find it easier to prepare for their trip to Europe.

The Lufthansa European Overseas Study Group will also hold competitions in January and July. Participants can win exciting prices, such as a Lufthansa airline ticket to their desired European destination, iPods and other awards.

The community also provides the information of transportations to and in Europe and a link to Lufthansa official website www.lufthansa.com, making online inquiry and bookings easier and more convenient for students.

In order to join, students have to log on to Xiaonei.com and register for the Lufthansa Overseas Study Group at http://lufthansa.xiaonei.com.

“China has long been a strategic market for Lufthansa’s global expansion. The fact that we chose China as the first country to introduce such a comprehensive social networking group proves Lufthansa’s commitment and initiative to our Chinese customers, “ said Mr Arved von zur Muehlen, Managing Director of Lufthansa Greater China. “We are also very proud to be the first European airline having this exclusive and innovative online community for students that enables us to interact with future frequent flyers from China across the country, as more and more Chinese people are keen on doing business online.”

Lufthansa introduces special student fare
Together with the launch of the Lufthansa Overseas Study Group the airline introduces its new student fares from China to Europe starting from only CNY3,300 for a one-way and CNY4,500 for a return flight. Taxes and surcharges are excluded.

This offer includes many benefits that are particularly tailored to the needs of students, such as excess luggage allowance and provisional reservation without payment for up to two weeks. If students buy a return flight ticket the date of the return flight can be left open.

Students who are interested in this special offer can visit www.lufthansa.com for more details. Bookings can be made through the Lufthansa Service and Support Center at 400 8 868 868.

In addition to the airline’s homepage www.lufthansa.com, Lufthansa has introduced a few initiatives to further complement its online interactive platform in the Chinese market. The online Virtual Tour www.lufthansa.com/flyeurope is tailor-made for China and demonstrates Lufthansa’s unique flying experience through a highly-personalised introduction to the airline’s products and services. Moreover, Lufthansa also introduced an exclusive online shopping site for members of its Frequent Flyer Program, Miles and More, in China. The bilingual website www.newwaverewards.com, both in English and simplified Chinese, enables the Miles and More members to redeem miles in exchange for hundreds of exclusive and ever changing products. It offers unique online shopping experience to the airline’s frequent flyers in China.
