The 2017 International Environment and Sustainable Development Student Forum

On June 5th, the World Environment Day, about 300 college students from 30 countries around the world gathered at the 1•29 Auditorium of Tongji University to attend the 2017 International Environment and Sustainable Development Student Forum whose topic was “Human and nature are closely related.” Students focused on four issues, including “ecological system and wild animals, sustainable development education and the United Nations, and ecological city and green lifestyle” and they shared their newest practical experience as well as their ideas with each other.

On the forum, Professor ZHOU Huaiyang from the School of Ocean and Earth Science of Tongji University delivered a report, analyzing deep-sea mining from the perspectives of the environment, technology, economy and regulation, and pointing out that we should pay great attention to the research on deep-sea ecological environment. Nick Nato, the Secretary of Information Department of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Executive Secretary Spokesman, emphasized the development path of human-being and global economy had been reset by the Treaty of Paris and the transformation to low-carbon and clean technology economy was irresistible and inevitable.
